Lord's Taverners National Table Cricket Competition

Marjorie McClure won the Regional Finals at the Oval to represent the London area at the Finals of the Lord's Taverners Table Cricket Competition at Lords on 10th June

With the quality improving every year, and perhaps not performing to their own high standards, Marjorie McClure came a creditable 8th in the country. A very commendable performance. A new name appeared on the trophy as Portland College from Nottingham won the title. Ambassador Ricky Groves, of Eastenders fame, was there again to present trophies and certificates and give autographs.

The All England Table Cricket Team was picked and announced at Lord's. See representative cricket for details of more success

Eltham College on their way

Eltham college played the first round of the National Schools under 12s tournament on 21 April, hoping to emulate their win of the cup last year. They beat St. Bede's school from Sussex, scoring 137, with Alex Tate opening the batting and giving them a fine start with 54, followed by great support by Harry Thompson scoring 40 not out at no. 7.

St.Bede's were skittled out for 120 with the pick of the bowlers being Freddie Foster, a young year 7 boy who took 4 wickets, including a wicket with his first ball. The rest of the wickets were shared with Harry Thompson completing a fine all round performance taking one wicket, and one run out.

Good luck to Eltham College in the next round

Bromley District Cricket Academy

Bromley District have identified a need in the area for more concentrated coaching for the older age group and to this end they have introduced the Bromley District Cricket Academy. This is a venture which will provide high level, focussed coaching for the U15-U17 age group and their peers, improving all round cricketing skills and hopefully providing 1st XI club players of the future. The Academy is open to all those who have either played for the District in the past or have been recommended by their school/club/coach for this specialist coaching and is by invitation only. The Academy will be staffed by ECB qualified coaches who may recommend the best players for further coaching courses at County Level. There will also be opportunities for 1 to 1 coaching and specialist coaching. If you would like to be nominated, please contact us for a nomination form to give to your school/club/coach
