BDCC Under 14s Vs O.E./Chesham CC match reports 2009
BDCC Under 14s at Old Elthamians 2009 20/21st August 09 BDCC Under 14 take on Old Elthamians under 15s and a visiting under 14?s team from Chesham(Bucks).
On what looked like a bowlers wicket, O.E. put Bromley into bat and they soon got the breakthrough with a run out in the 3rd over. Bromley dug in with Alistair McWilliam posting a creditable 19 and Tariq Holmes- Dennis providing the backbone of the innings with 35. However, O.E. assessment of the wicket proved sound and Bromley were skittled out for 105.
To get a result with so few runs to bowl at it was clear that Bromley would have to deliver a strong performance on the field. James Jones removed Will Foster without him troubling the scorers (0) and Tariq Holmes- Dennis sent Murray back to the pavilion on 5. Joseph Gold?s introduction to the attack signalled the beginning of the end of O.E. as he returned figures of 4-1-7-5, with them all out for 48 in just 15 overs.
Chesham arrived at the ground to blue skies but the forecast was for rain. Bromley won the toss and elected to bowl and the early removal of P. John for 5 seemed to vindicate the decision, with Bromley looking to emulate the wicket taking success of the previous day. However Chesham?s M. Hughes had other ideas as he powered to what looked like a match winning innings of 103 before being bowled.
With the score at 175 off 35 overs the rain arrived and lunch was taken early.
After lunch it was by no means certain that the game could continue but it was eventually agreed to play the second innings at 30 overs with the target of 150.
Batting conditions were not good and Bromley conceded early wickets, 45-4 after 9 overs. The batsman continued to struggle but Alistair McWilliam strode to the crease and dug in scoring 45 not out accompanied by a useful knock of 31 by Joseph Gold, Bromley finally getting home with 3 overs to spare.
Captain James Jones said ? Two good wins for the team with a real squad effort and some fine performances. The O.E. game in particular showed what can be done if you hold your nerve and do the basics right!?
