Old Wilsonians CC visit to Lords Peter Moores Training Session Several members of Old Wilsonians' Cricket club kindly donated to the club the opportunity for some of our talented young cricketers and coaches to attend a coaching session at the Lords Indoor School. The lucky attendees selected by a series of nominations from those who donated the opportunity were;
Players: Coaches:
Michael Mitchell Dave Pilgrim
Jonathan Rodda Chris Spedding
Chris Scott Dave Spedding
Callum Steel
So it was that 7 very nervous young men pitched up to meet the England manager who was accompanied by Chris Tremlett the England fast bowler who makes Chris Spedding look like a midget.
After a series of warm up routines during which Peter Moores explained some of his coaching style the group had the opportunity to work on both batting and bowling with Chris Tremlett taking the bowling session and Peter Moores the batting. It seemed very strange to see the England manager feeding balls into the bowling machine and coach our OW youngsters and then get down just as we do every Saturday and retrieve the balls. He was quick to point out various technical issues to all four and they all came away with points to work on.
On the bowling front Chris Tremlett worked with the coaches and players on how to use and organise such sessions and I am told he bowled a couple as well.
The session was really made fun and at the end rather than rushing away both England coach and player gave the boys every opportunity to get things signed and have photos taken. Many thanks to Peter Moores and Chris Tremlett for their time.
